Therapeutic Indication

PRUXONE 1000 is a broad-spectrum bactericidal cephalosporin antibiotic indicated for the treatment of bacterial meningitis, community-acquired pneumonia, hospital-acquired pneumonia, intra-abdominal infections, acute otitis media, complicated urinary tract infections including pyelonephritis, infections of bones and joints, complicated skin and soft tissue infections, gonorrhoea, syphilis, and bacterial endocarditis in adults and children including term neonates from birth.

Dosage and Method of Administration

  • The dose depends on the severity, susceptibility, site and type of infection, and on the age and hepato-renal function of the patient.

Therapeutic Indication

Ceftriaxone with sulbactam is indicated for lower respiratory tract infections, acute otitis media, skin and skin structure infections, urinary tract infections, bone and joint infections, intra-abdominal infections, septicaemia, meningitis, and gonorrhoea caused by susceptible organisms.

Dosage and Method of Administration

  • Adults: the recommended dosage is 1.5 g to 3 g every 6 hours, representing 1 g ceftriaxone plus 0.5 g sulbactam up to 2 g ceftriaxone plus 1 g sulbactam.
  • The total dose of sulbactam should not exceed 4 g per day.
  • The usual adult daily ceftriaxone dose is 1 g to 2 g once daily, or in equally divided doses twice daily, depending on infection type and severity. Total daily dose should not exceed 4 g.
  • Adjust the regimen in patients with marked renal impairment. In patients with creatinine clearance below 15 ml/min, the maximum sulbactam dose should be 500 mg every 12 hours.
  • Neonates up to 14 days: 20 to 50 mg/kg once daily, not exceeding 50 mg/kg/day.
  • Infants and children 15 days to 12 years: 20 to 80 mg/kg once daily. Children weighing 50 kg or more should receive the usual adult dose.
  • Intravenous doses of not less than 50 mg/kg should be infused over at least 30 minutes.
  • For Streptococcus pyogenes infections, therapy should continue for at least 10 days.
