Therapeutic Indication

For the treatment of infections caused by micro-organisms sensitive to azithromycin.

Dosage and Method of Administration

  • Total azithromycin dose is 1500 mg. This may be given over 3 days as 500 mg once daily, or over 5 days as 500 mg on Day 1 followed by 250 mg once daily on Days 2 to 5.
  • Adults: community-acquired pneumonia, pharyngitis or tonsillitis, and uncomplicated skin or skin structure infections may be treated with 500 mg on Day 1 followed by 250 mg once daily on Days 2 to 5.
  • Adults: acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis may be treated with 500 mg on Day 1 followed by 250 mg once daily on Days 2 to 5, or 500 mg once daily for 3 days.
  • Adults: acute bacterial sinusitis may be treated with 500 mg once daily for 3 days.
  • Adults: chancroid, non-gonococcal urethritis, and cervicitis may be treated with a single 1 g dose. Gonococcal urethritis and cervicitis may be treated with a single 2 g dose.
  • Pediatrics: acute otitis media may be treated as 30 mg/kg single dose, 10 mg/kg once daily for 3 days, or 10 mg/kg on Day 1 followed by 5 mg/kg/day on Days 2 to 5.
  • Pediatrics: acute bacterial sinusitis may be treated with 10 mg/kg once daily for 3 days.
  • Pediatrics: community-acquired pneumonia may be treated with 10 mg/kg on Day 1 followed by 5 mg/kg once daily on Days 2 to 5.
  • Pediatrics: pharyngitis and tonsillitis in children 2 years and older may be treated with 12 mg/kg once daily for 5 days.

Mode of Administration

  • Oral use.
  • Should be given as a single daily dose.
  • Swallow the tablet with a drink of water.
  • Do not chew or crush the tablet.

Therapeutic Indication

For the treatment of infections caused by micro-organisms sensitive to azithromycin in pediatric patients only.

Dosage and Method of Administration

  • For pediatric use only.
  • 20 mg/kg/day as a single daily dose for 3 days, without exceeding the adult dose of 500 mg/day.
  • In children aged 1 year and older, the total dose is 30 mg/kg administered as 10 mg/kg once daily for 3 days, or over 5 days starting with 10 mg/kg on Day 1 followed by 5 mg/kg per day for the next 4 days.
  • There are limited data on use in children younger than 1 year.

Mode of Administration

  • Oral use.
  • The oral suspension can be administered with or without food.
  • Administer only after reconstitution of the suspension.
  • Directions for reconstitution: shake the bottle to loosen the powder, slowly add freshly boiled and cooled water up to the mark on the bottle, then shake vigorously until all powder is dispersed.
